About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced professional to lead Zonos’ global trade policy and government affairs efforts. The ideal candidate will have expertise in international trade policy, regulatory affairs, and lobbying, with strong industry connections to drive immediate impact. This role will initially be structured as a contract position with the potential to transition to a full-time role as we assess long-term needs. That being said, if you are looking for a full-time W2 role, please apply as we are open to that possibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Policy Influence & Advocacy: Develop and execute strategies to shape global trade, tax, and e-commerce regulations in favor of Zonos and its customers.
• Regulatory Monitoring & Risk Mitigation: Track emerging legislation, providing early warnings and actionable insights to mitigate business risks.
• Government & Industry Relations: Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, trade associations, and regulatory agencies in key markets (U.S., EU, UK, Australia, Canada, etc.).
• Industry Representation: Represent Zonos in trade groups, policy forums, and conferences to advocate for business-friendly regulations.
• Internal & External Education: Serve as a subject matter expert, consulting on compliance strategies, product development, and customer impact. Develop educational materials for internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Strategic Partner Engagement: Work with key partners and merchants to address regulatory challenges and align advocacy efforts.
• Public Speaking & Thought Leadership: Contribute to Zonos’ industry influence through whitepapers, articles, webinars, podcasts, and speaking engagements.
• Consultant & Lobbyist Management: Identify and manage external consultants or lobbyists as needed to support advocacy efforts.
• Product & Business Strategy Support: Collaborate with product teams to align product changes with evolving legislation. Provide insights to sales and marketing to leverage trade policy developments for growth opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

• 8+ years in government affairs, lobbying, regulatory policy, or international trade law.
• Strong existing relationships with trade regulators, policymakers, and industry groups.
• Deep understanding of e-commerce tax policies, de minimis thresholds, and global trade compliance.
• Proven ability to influence policy decisions and advocate for business-friendly regulations.
• Experience in corporate government affairs, trade associations, or government agencies preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex regulatory issues into actionable insights.
• Comfortable in an independent role with potential for team leadership.
