Sr. Global Trade Controls Lead IV
Location: Remote– Must work PST hours; occasional onsite in San Jose, CA
Contract Duration: 5-month assignment, strong potential to extend or convert based on performance and budget
Pay Rate: Up to $101/hour
Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week (standard PST hours, occasional OT)
Our client, a leading global technology company, is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Sr. Global Trade Controls Lead IV to join their Global Trade Operations team. This role plays a key part in ensuring worldwide trade compliance and operational efficiency.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level trade compliance expert to drive strategic initiatives, develop industry-leading trade governance processes, and collaborate across a global network of internal and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee U.S. and international customs and trade operations to ensure compliance with import/export regulations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to implement strategies for compliant and efficient global movement of goods and services.
- Design and deploy a comprehensive customs brokerage, freight forwarding, and logistics partner program.
- Act as the subject matter expert on global trade regulations, including interactions with government agencies (e.g., CBP, BIS, OFAC, DDTC).
- Lead compliance initiatives related to trade remedies, duty-saving programs (e.g., FTAs, FTZs, duty drawback), and assess regulatory changes.
- Develop and deliver trade compliance training, communication strategies, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with legal, product, and operational teams to align processes with regulatory requirements.
- Lead and manage teams while monitoring KPIs to drive performance improvements and ensure compliance.
- Classify products using Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Schedule B, and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN).
- Use data analytics and automation to enhance compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across trade operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in global trade compliance, customs, and regulatory operations.
- Deep understanding of U.S. and international trade laws, including incoterms, classification, valuation, country of origin, export licensing, and sanctions.
- Active U.S. Customs Broker License required.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Proven leadership and project management experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Global Trade Management (GTM) systems is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with remote teams while supporting PST time zone hours.
- Comfortable with occasional onsite presence in San Jose, CA.
