Position Summary
The Customs & Duty Specialist is responsible for managing and optimizing all aspects of Test rite’s import compliance and duty management programs. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate product classification under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), maintaining compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, and identifying opportunities for duty savings and process efficiencies. The Specialist will collaborate with overseas partners, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure smooth and compliant import operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate HTS classification for all imported products and maintain comprehensive classification documentation.
  • Coordinate with sourcing, logistics, and product teams to ensure the proper classification, valuation, and country-of-origin determination for imports.
  • Partner with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and overseas agents to ensure timely and compliant customs clearance.
  • Monitor, analyze, and propose duty optimization opportunities, including the use of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Free Trade Zones (FTZs), bonded warehouses, and duty drawback programs.
  • Review import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and entry summaries, to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customs-related inquiries, audits, and internal compliance reviews.
  • Support and maintain C-TPAT compliance and other trade security initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver internal training sessions related to customs compliance, HTS classification, and import procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases for all import-related data and classifications, ensuring integrity across systems.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with HTS classification and U.S. import regulations — required.
  • Proven experience working on the importer side (manufacturer, importer of record, or brand owner) strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of customs processes, duty assessment, and trade compliance programs (C-TPAT, FTA, FTZ).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP or trade management systems preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in customs brokerageimport operations, or trade compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in international business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Bilingual in Mandarin is a plus.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
